Thank you for your patience as we put steps in place to support our students during the COVID-19 closure. Below you will find information and resources that are available at this time. Our teachers and staff have been working hard to develop a program with activities designed to promote a continuance of learning. Details of activities for each age group will come from the sites and classroom teachers. I would like to take a moment to thank our teachers for their dedication to our students and desire to serve our community during this significant disruption to our operation.
Just before noon today, the Santa Clara County Health Department declared that all public schools in the county will close effective Monday, March 16, 2020. Our school will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 10.
We understand this decision may present challenges for you and your loved ones. On Monday, March 16th Flexible Learning Options will be available for our students via Schoology. These materials were initially designed to provide options for supporting families who chose to keep their children at home; however, as our schools are now officially closed, our staff teams will be reevaluating these resources as we work to maintain academic continuity for students during the current closure period. Although these resources do not replicate the learning experiences that occur in our classrooms, we hope they can offer some level of support by maintaining essential skills and a sense of routine for your child.
If your family would like to borrow a Chromebook in order to access online resources, please complete this Google Form and come to the school site on Monday, March 16th between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM to check out devices for student use. If you are unable to come to the school office on Monday morning, please contact your child’s counselor or administrator to coordinate borrowing a Chromebook.
The core mission of the Palo Alto Unified School District is to provide a high-quality education for all students.
PAUSD staff continues to closely monitor the situation regarding the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) while working with partner agencies to ensure we are providing our community with accurate and timely information. As you may be aware, on March 5, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department made statements in a press release that signaled a change in approach from previous communications. They recommended that communities, governments, businesses, and schools postpone or cancel mass gatherings and large community events where large numbers of people are within arm’s length of one another. These recommendations are meant to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the number of people infected, and especially protect those who are most vulnerable to severe illness. This is a critical moment in the growing outbreak of COVID-19 in Santa Clara County when such measures can potentially slow the spread of the disease.
Effective tomorrow, March 10, through the end of the school year, the following conditions will be put into place in order to continue to provide a high-quality education for all students:
This is a difficult decision, as we know many of you have been looking forward to these events. All upcoming school and district related large gatherings (more than 100 people) are canceled through the end of the school year. This includes events where students, staff, parents, and outside community members come together in close proximity to one another. Specific upcoming events that are now canceled include:
You should have all received an email update from our Superintendent regarding Coronavirus. I wanted to also send the same message to ensure that all of our Greene families are receiving the message. I have also included a link below to the PAUSD webpage where updates (English, Spanish, Mandarin) can be located.
